Lecture at Marinmuseum: The forgotten fleet - the wrecks that protect Karlskrona and Stockholm

In the depths of the Baltic Sea there is a large archaeological material that is both unique in the world and still unexplored: sunken ships of the Swedish navy. Some have sunk in battle or in an accident, but many have been sunk intentionally to serve as dock fills and to create harbor environments.

The research program "The Forgotten Fleet - Sweden's "blue" cultural heritage 1450-1850" maps, documents and studies the Swedish naval fleet. Altogether, there is information on approximately 785 ships, of which only a few have been archaeologically investigated and documented. Nevertheless, the ships form a central part of Swedish maritime history - a part that is largely forgotten and unknown today.
