Must do in Karlskrona during 24h

What shouldn't we miss when visiting Karlskrona for 24 hours?

Here we've gathered tips from our talented summer staff, who share ideas on what you can do if you're visiting Karlskrona for just 24 hours on a summer day.

  • If you have a full day in Karlskrona, I highly recommend a trip to Aspö. Take the ferry over to this charming archipelago island, where you can bike along quiet roads, swim in the sea, visit cozy cafés, and explore historic sights like Drottningskär Citadel and the Aspö Military Museum. Here you can experience the authentic archipelago atmosphere at a leisurely pace.

  • One of Karlskrona’s most unique attractions is Kungsholm Fort. This active military facility is not normally open to the public, which makes the guided tour a truly special experience. Don’t forget to book in advance through the Karlskrona Tourist Center—it’s one of the summer’s most sought-after activities.
  • For those who want to get up close to the archipelago, we recommend renting a kayak, canoe, or SUP. Paddle between islands and islets, find your own secluded cove, and stop for a coffee break or lunch with the sea as your closest neighbor. It’s a fantastic way to experience Karlskrona’s World Heritage Site from the water. And don’t forget to leave nature just as beautiful as you found it.

  • Another of our top tips is to explore Karlskrona from the saddle of a bike. Follow the marked loop route through the city’s islands and combine sightseeing with cozy cafés, restaurants, and swimming stops along the way. It’s an easy and delightful way to experience both city life and the archipelago in a single day.
  • If you enjoy hiking, don’t miss the Skärvaleden trail. Just outside Karlskrona, a scenic trail awaits, where coastal landscapes, forests, pastures, and historic sites alternate one after another. Be sure to visit Skärva Herrgård, which is part of the World Heritage Site, and treat yourself to coffee and pastries or lunch at the Skärva farm shop and summer restaurant, which focuses on locally sourced ingredients.

  • An easy way to explore more of the archipelago is to hop aboard one of the archipelago boats. Take a day trip to Hasslö, Sturkö, or Nättraby, for example, and enjoy peaceful coastal settings, beautiful nature, and charming little communities that showcase a different side of Karlskrona.
  • If you have time for a day trip, we recommend a visit to Kristianopel. This small Renaissance town offers cobblestone streets, rose gardens, cozy cafés, small shops, and a harbor that exudes summer. It’s the perfect destination for a peaceful day steeped in history, with the sea always nearby.

  • Want to end the day in a slightly different way? Then we recommend a trip on the M/S Axel to Nättraby. There, you’ll find Kvartersbryggeriet, where you can book a popular beer tasting featuring locally brewed varieties and hear the story behind the brewery’s craft. If you’d prefer a quiet moment, simply settle into the pub and enjoy a delicious drink before the boat takes you back to Karlskrona.
  • For history buffs, there are several exciting museums to choose from. The Naval Museum and the Blekinge Museum tell the story of Karlskrona’s World Heritage Site and the Swedish Navy, while the Car and Porcelain Museum offers a unique experience. On Aspö, you’ll also find the Museum of Mobile Coastal Artillery—a popular destination for those who want to delve into the island’s military history.
