Drottningskär Citadel

Drottningskär Citadel is part of the world heritage site Karlskrona and was built in the last decades of the 17th century. Drottningskär Citadel, part of the World Heritage site Karlskrona, was built during the last decades of the 17th century and is considered one of the Swedish fortifications' foremost creations. Opening Hours 2026: May 30–August 31, daily 9:45 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The Citadel Tavern: Sunday–Thursday: 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m, Friday–Saturday: 11:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Guided tours are offered daily: Journey Through Time - A historical experience for the whole family, at 10:30 a.m. and The History of Drottningskär Citadel, at 12:30 p.m, 1:45 p.m, and 3:00 p.m.

Where can you eat together?

Regardless of whether you are looking for coffee, good food or want to go out to have fun, you are welcome with your dog in several places around the city. Keep in mind that different restaurants have different rules when it comes to dogs. Always check before booking a table or ask on the spot. Many restaurants allow the dog to join the outdoor dining area - but always ask the staff first. Below you will find places to eat where your friend is welcome. Havgården in Nättraby even has its own menu for doggies.

Where can you play and hang out?

Parks, green areas, walking paths in the center or nature reserves - Karlskrona offers a pleasant visit for all dog owners. There are several dog parks in and outside of Karlskrona - here you can let your dog loose. However, remember to show consideration for the other dogs and their owners, so that everyone can enjoy themselves.

Where can you swim together?

Our four-legged friends are also welcome to visit Karlskrona municipality's outdoor bathing areas. Karlskrona municipality has three official dog bathing areas; one on northern Långö, one on Hästö by the Coldinu bathing spot and one on Dragsö. Dogs are welcome to swim here all year round. 
During the period 15 May - 15 September between 8.00 - 20.00, dogs are not allowed to swim at public bathing areas, with the exception of the areas organised by the municipality as dog bathing areas.

Choose between staying with your dog in a hotel or in a camping cabin suitable for pets. Karlskrona has several possibilities to make your stay as dog-friendly as possible. Here you will find a range of accommodation facilities that welcome dogs. Don't forget to mention your four-legged friend when booking your accommodation!

Dragsö Camping has been voted Sweden's most dog-friendly campsite in 2025 by Hundtrips members, with the following motivation:

This campsite topped the list as the most dog-friendly according to our followers – and rightly so. With its location close to the sea, surrounding green areas and staff who really welcome dogs, this is an obvious destination for dog owners.

Dragsö Camping has an official dog bathing area, and dogs are also allowed to swim on a leash anywhere on the island of Dragsö, except at the official bathing area during the period May 15–September 15 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. After swimming, there is a dog shower in one of the service buildings. Four-legged friends are welcome at the campsite's outdoor restaurant and in their cottages.

Can I bring my dog on board the archipelago boats?

You are welcome to bring pets on board Blekingetrafiken’s boats. If anyone on board has allergies, you will be asked to stay out on deck.

How does it work with dogs on public transportation?

Guide dogs, service and signal dogs are of course always welcome and may be brought along free of charge. A dog, cat or other small pet, which can be brought without causing inconvenience to other passengers, may also be brought along free of charge.

The animal must travel in a specially marked space in the vehicle or according to instructions from the driver or train attendant. The animal must be kept on a leash or sit in a bag or cage throughout the journey and may not be placed on seats.
