Baroque Banquet
B as in “beginning,” and B as in “baroque” and B as in “banquet.” A beginning has no set answer. A beginning carries both hopes and fears. The word “baroque” embodies both the positive aspects of its opulence and the negative aspects of something that gets out of hand and challenges the boundaries of conventional taste.

The word “Baroque” derives from the Portuguese word *barocco*, meaning “irregular pearl.” This irregularity or imperfection can be seen as an invitation to perceive both the beauty of the pearl and its flaws at the same time—the imperfect as a space for one’s own imagination. Baroque dance was based on participation. A social spectacle, but also a format for inclusion where participation offered the opportunity to express one’s individuality through the collective.
The “bank” in the word “banquet” can be traced back to the word for “small bench,” implying a relaxed, informal gathering. That’s how it was viewed in the beginning, before “banquet” became synonymous with grandiose, formal receptions. Invite everyone to dance and let the evening begin.
