Exhibition opening – The Iron Age in Blekinge
Golden figurines, Celtic bronze masks and magnificent depictions of animals, alongside real artefacts and authentic traces – step into a world of the past!
Welcome to a journey back to Blekinge in the Iron Age. A world that, to us modern-day people, would feel both familiar and alien – where life is shaped by relationships, work, building projects and trends in tune with the rhythm of the seasons. But where there is also room for long-distance journeys, grand celebrations and exotic status symbols. A world where a human life could become a commodity, where the gods are many and ever-present, and where people sought strength in the characteristics of animals to find courage and resolve.
Through artefacts that have lain hidden in the earth for thousands of years, you can get up close and personal. Magnificent jewellery, forged weapons, Celtic bronze masks, Roman wine sets, dragon heads and small figurines in the purest gold all tell their own stories, which together offer a glimpse of Blekinge in the Iron Age. Listen to the language of the oldest runes, visit a Viking-era trading post in the archipelago, get to know the gods of Norse mythology and discover which animal you would have been reincarnated as had you lived in another age – the Age of Iron.
