Lunch Concert - The Swedish Royal Navy Band
The Navy Band dates back to 1680, and over the centuries, generations of musicians have carried on the tradition. One of them is Robert Sjölin. Friday, November 6, at 12:10 p.m. in Sparresalen, Karlskrona.

At the age of 15, in 1942, Robert Sjölin was accepted as a music student at the Navy Band in Karlskrona. He made the decision to devote his life to military music after hearing the band perform at a concert in Trelleborg the previous year. In 1954, he earned his degree in music direction, and after his time in Karlskrona, he took his first position as music director in Visby in 1960. In 1970, he moved to Växjö, where he witnessed the transformation of military music into regional and later county music.
Robert Sjölin became a central figure in the music scene of Kronoberg and a significant force for wind music in Sweden. As a composer, arranger, and conductor, his music spread far beyond the borders of both the county and the country. Today, large parts of his body of work are collected in the Småland Music Archive—a rich resource for professional musicians, amateurs, and students at cultural schools alike.
In 2026, Robert Sjölin would have turned 100. At this concert, the Navy Band pays tribute to him by having the band’s sextet perform a program of music composed by Robert Sjölin.
