Open Day at the Carlskrona Reading Society Library
On Saturday 12 September, the doors to the Carlskrona Reading Society Library will open. During the open day, you’ll have the chance to visit the library and find out more about its unique collection of books.
The book collection left behind by the Carlskrona Reading Society is the oldest surviving collection of its kind. The collection is housed in a purpose-built library room at the Nordenskjöldska estate, designed by the interior designer Åke Axelsson.
To mark National Heritage Day, which aims to foster understanding, interest and engagement with cultural heritage and cultural environments, the council’s Culture and Leisure Department is hosting an open day at the library. Visitors will have the opportunity to view this unique room, explore the historic book collection and ask questions about the site and its history.
No advance booking is required; however, for fire safety reasons, only a limited number of people may be in the library at any one time. If the library is full, you may therefore need to wait a short while before being admitted.
