Preparedness Afternoon
On 23 September, you are welcome to Kungsmarksplan for an afternoon designed to inspire us to work together to strengthen our preparedness. You can read more about all the events here.
As part of Emergency Preparedness Week 2026, Karlskrona Municipality invites you to Kungsmarksplan, where you can test your emergency preparedness alongside neighbours, friends and family. Take the opportunity to learn more from experts in emergency preparedness.
When: Wednesday 23 September, 4.00 pm – 7.00 pm

What’s on during the emergency preparedness afternoon?
- Try cooking without electricity
- Sample some really tasty emergency rations – we’ll be serving chicken risotto
- Collect drinking water from a mobile emergency water tank
- Watch the Fire and Rescue Service and follow an exciting operation
- Meet the police and ask your questions
- Listen to fire safety tips from the Fire and Rescue Service
- Practise CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and learn how to stop bleeding quickly
- Pop into a mobile safety point where you can charge your mobile, have a cup of coffee or tea, and get important information
- Visit a temporary shelter and see what it’s like to be there when it’s crowded
- Practise packing the essentials – for both children and adults
- Try lighting a fire in a simple and safe way
- Learn more about alternative ways of communicating
- Take a quiz to test your preparedness
- Visit the on-site library to get tips and borrow emergency preparedness books
- Listen to stories
- Learn more about planting
- Try tying knots that will hold even in the wind
- Have a go at a challenging emergency preparedness obstacle course
- Get useful tips on emergency preparedness for you, your loved ones and even your pets
- Activities will be added on an ongoing basis.
Who will I meet?
The activities are organised by several municipal departments, such as the catering department, Sunnadal School, Kungsmarken Library, the security department and the water and sewerage department, together with Karlskronahem, the Family Centre, Fryshuset, the Östra Blekinge Emergency Services, the Police, Funplays Karlskrona and several voluntary organisations.
Further organisations may be added.
About Preparedness Week
The event is organised by Karlskrona Municipality as part of Preparedness Week, which is a themed week held in week 39 each year. The week is led by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MCF) and carried out simultaneously by many organisations with the aim of strengthening residents’ resilience. The theme for 2026 is ‘You are part of Sweden’s total defence’.
