About the program
The Navy's proximity to the sea – and the sea's importance to the Navy – is deeply rooted in history. For thousands of years, the sea has fascinated mankind and enticed us to venture out towards the horizon in search of the unknown. From the seafarers of antiquity and the Vikings' voyages across the North Atlantic, via explorers such as Columbus, to our own time, the sea has carried ships and transported people across the oceans.
Under the direction of conductor Gunvald Ottesen, the music corps portrays the sea in various “Sea Pieces.” We hear examples of the sea's many forms – its colors, movements, and expressions. Here, great orchestral masterpieces from Ralph Vaughan Williams meet Swedish interpretations by Evert Taube. Musical artist Oscar Pierreou Lindén brings the sea to life and lets the soul of the water take shape in both words and music.
A warm welcome to a concert entirely dedicated to the magic of the sea.
