Songs in the Backyard

Songs in the Backyard

Visans vänner invites everyone to come listen, relax, and enjoy Visor på Bakgården. There will be gentle waltzes, lovely songs, and daring ballads from near and far. There might even be a sing-along or two.

“Visor på Bakgården” is a recurring summer event organized by Visans vänner.

On four Thursdays throughout the summer, invited guest artists, along with members and friends of Visans vänner, will perform and sing in the cozy backyard of the City Library in the heart of Karlskrona. Coffee, buns, and hot dogs will also be available at a reasonable price. If it rains or for other reasons we can’t be in the City Library’s backyard, we’ll be in the City Library’s auditorium—it’s right next door.

This year we’re pleased to present the following guest artists:
Last August on June 11
Last August, consisting of Jenna Thor, Emelie Cullenfors-Ringholm, and Hans Rickler, is Karlskrona’s answer to First Aid Kit. Visans vänner are proud and delighted that, with their harmonious voices and smooth guitar playing, they will help create a warm and cozy atmosphere on this evening of folk songs in a classic Karlskrona setting. They will perform a wide repertoire ranging from classic Swedish folk songs to more modern gems from the American songbook.

Rasmus Dahlström on June 25
Rasmus is one of Karlskrona’s most dedicated young musicians and can be seen on stages in various lineups. He has been performing at Bakgårdarna for a couple of years and has proven himself to be an excellent entertainer with a solid grounding in the Swedish folk song tradition. Always pleasant, always professional—we’re really looking forward to what he has to offer this year.

William Bülow O’Nils on July 16
William is a key figure in the new generation of troubadours (alongside Kim Persson and William Sundman Sääf, among others) who, in various ways, are bringing attention to and developing the Swedish folk song tradition. Last year, William Bülow O’Nils recorded an album of Ruben Nilsson’s songs and has, for that reason among others, been called “the Fred Åkerström of the 2020s.” Skilled guitar playing paired with a genuine feel for the stories in the songs will make for an unforgettable evening. We have also managed to get Lars Nylin (author of the Fred Åkerström biography) to come and reflect on the songs Fred Åkerström made immortal.

Gunnar Norda and others on August 6
Gunnar is Visans vänner’s latest discovery among up-and-coming artists in Karlskrona. He has now completed his first academic year at the Skurup Folk High School in the Rock Music program and has been entrusted with the role of our guest artist. Gunnar has promised not to forget the narrative form of the ballad and our audience’s need for both familiarity and new challenges. He is a young musician worth keeping an eye on (and an ear out for). Fresh and exciting all at once!

50 SEK. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m.
