Country music, of course, has its origins in the USA and has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years in many ways. We’re tapping into this country boom and offering a delightful selection of well-known and lesser-known songs and tunes linked to country music in one way or another.
In this year’s themed concert, we’ll be showcasing aspects of its origins, as well as country music’s influence on Swedish artists and songs that we now consider part of our Swedish folk music tradition. Naturally, there’ll be a number of tributes to American country stars and the odd song in English.
Our artists:
- Hans & Emelie C-R: Two-thirds of Last August, firmly rooted in the country sections of The American Songbook, with beautiful harmonies and skilful guitar accompaniment. Always genuinely beautiful and moving.
- Emelie K & Elin: Two lovely voices with guitar accompaniment that convey the fundamental emotions of country music: a longing for love, a yearning for home, and the hope for a better life.
- Larsson and Karlsson: With new-old favourites and freshly picked gems from a treasure trove of both familiar country songs and classic schlager delights – a bit like Aladdin – but better. Larsson and Karlsson will outdo themselves with genuine country and western straight from the heart to you. - Lotte and Lisa: This newly formed harmonising folk duo, with their roots in Swedish folk music but clearly inspired by both the British Isles and ‘Over There’, have a sound inspired by ‘The Carter Family’ and the earliest days of the ‘Grand Ole Opry’.
- Vistolkarna: This time, Visans Vänner’s band will explore the roots of country music and the influence it has had on what we might perceive as the authentic Swedish folk song tradition.
Admission: 180 SEK, Members: 150 SEK, Young people: 90 SEK.
Visans Vänner in Karlskrona is an association for people who play or enjoy listening to folk songs and ballads. Visans Vänner has around 200 members and organises concerts and members’ meetings all year round. “Folk songs aren’t high culture, but they’re culture at its finest!”
