Underworld - Light installation in the railway tunnel in the World Heritage Site of Karlskrona

A light installation by Aleksandra Stratimirovic, Järnvägstunneln, Karlskrona, December 11, 2025 – February 15, 2026.
Opening Thursday, December 11, 4:30–5:30 p.m., at the Norra Kungsgatan entrance.
Aleksandra Stratimirovic talks about her light installation and Michael Helgesson takes us on a journey through Karlskrona's underground history.

Underworld is a light installation that depicts an imaginary underwater world or underwater settlement. It highlights the fragility of the marine environment in encounters between light and darkness, art and architecture, city and sea, cultural heritage and mysterious places. "Through light, the tunnel can be transformed from a hidden space into a poetic sensory experience. "

Aleksandra Stratimirovic is an internationally active artist who, for over two decades, has immersed herself in the power of light to change, enhance, and convey emotions in public spaces. Light functions not only as a form but also as a storyteller in her artistry.

The installation's soft light forms and architectural expressions are accompanied by a soundscape by Argentine composer Leonel Kaplan, in which sounds from the sea and the city are woven together.

Underworld will be on display from December 11, 2025, to February 15, 2026.

Underworld can be viewed during the dark hours of the day, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day, from the gates and from above the open part of the tunnel.

The project is part of the work on designing the living environment in Blekinge and is a collaboration between Konst i Blekinge/Region Blekinge and Karlskrona Municipality.
