The marriage between Hildegard and Jörgen had already shown signs of strain before the strip club came to town. But now! No one remains unaffected by this astonishing addition to the local entertainment scene—who’s for it, and who’s against it? As if that weren’t enough, the mysterious Näcken prowls the forest edge.

The frustrated Hildegard, played by Anna Blomberg, finds her life turned upside down. When she, together with dancer Jessica, chases the enigmatic Näcken, an unexpected friendship emerges. She also realizes that the secret she has been carrying is about to be revealed.

In the middle of a small town, everyday life, dreams, and longing collide. In Hildegard’s and Jörgen’s combined living room and foot care salon, life unfolds in all its quiet confusion, while the new entertainment venue beckons with glitter and promises of something more. And out in the forest, Näcken watches between nightmare and daydream, between temptation and danger.

When the Strip Club Came to Town is a story full of warm humor and heart, where people try to find their way back to each other—and to themselves.

Inspired by Swedish small towns where strip clubs have actually opened in recent years, playwright Björn Elgerd has created a heartfelt comedy of entanglements, directed by Anna Novovic. The duo previously collaborated on Straighta besked, and Anna recently directed the audience hit Jag som var så rolig att dricka vin med for Riksteatern.
