Why do authoritarian states survive?
Marina Nord, postdoctoral researcher at the Varieties of Democracy Institute at the University of Gothenburg and author of the Democracy Report 2025, gives a lecture on the global decline of democracy and how different regimes change. Why is democracy weakening, and can autocratization be stopped—or even reversed?
