Sweden's first female engineer, Vera Sandberg, grew up in Långasjönäs outside Karlshamn. At a time when women had neither the right to vote nor obvious access to higher education, Vera was a pioneer when she was the only woman among about 500 men to graduate with an engineering degree from Chalmers.
