"For anyone who wants to experience Karlskrona’s history, its World Heritage Site, and the archipelago all at once, I can also recommend the World Heritage Boat Tour. It’s one of the best ways to see how the city’s maritime history is connected to the archipelago.
During the tour, you’ll pass several of Karlskrona’s most interesting sights, such as the gunpowder magazine, the well-preserved shipyard area, and historic fortifications like God Natt, Drottningskär Citadel, and Kungsholm Fortress. You’ll also see Kungsbron, which was once the city’s main entrance, and the naval base, which is still in operation.
The tour departs from Fisktorget and takes you around the central part of Karlskrona’s archipelago. I recommend getting off at Drottningskärs Citadel on Aspö to explore the historic fortification. Afterward, you can continue exploring Aspö or walk to the northern part of the island to take the free road ferry back to Karlskrona. It’s a tour that offers a wonderful combination of history, the archipelago, and unique sights."

"To really get to know Karlskrona, I recommend taking the time to explore the city’s rich history. A visit to the Naval Museum and the Blekinge Museum together offers a fantastic insight into both the city’s maritime heritage and the people who have shaped Karlskrona throughout the ages.
At the Naval Museum, you can trace the exciting history of the Swedish Navy from the 1500s to the present day and discover stories about ships, sailors, and life at sea. At the Blekinge Museum, you’ll get to know the people behind the history and understand how Karlskrona has developed into the unique World Heritage Site it is today. If you’re traveling with children, the World Heritage exhibition featuring the ship’s rats Råkåkå and Valentin is a fun and popular way to bring history to life for the whole family.
If you want to experience Karlskrona through the stories behind the city’s streets and buildings, we also recommend the guided city walk “Karlskrona in 90 Minutes.” Together with a guide, you’ll discover the city’s hidden gems, hear fascinating stories, and see the sights with fresh eyes.
Whether you choose the museum or the city walk, it’s a perfect way to understand why Karlskrona is one of Sweden’s most unique World Heritage Sites—and why history remains such an important part of the city today."

"To explore the eastern part of Karlskrona, take the ‘Excursion in the Eastern Archipelago’ boat tour, which takes you to Sturkö, Tjurkö, Ytterön, Stenshamn, and Utlängan, among other places!
For those longing for a more secluded archipelago experience, a visit to Ytterön and Hästholmen is highly recommended. Take the small cable ferry across and explore the islands at your own pace—ideally from the saddle of a bike with a well-stocked picnic basket in tow. Here you’ll find an authentic coastal landscape with historic shipyards, fascinating military ruins, and beautiful nature in one of Blekinge’s largest nature reserves. Ytterön also has a hotel and restaurant, which are perfect for unwinding after a full day of adventure.
Be sure to round out your stay in the eastern archipelago with a trip to Stenshamn and Utlängan, two unique islands at the farthest reaches of the archipelago. Follow the hiking trail between the islands, enjoy magnificent views of the Baltic Sea, and experience a vibrant coastal landscape where traditions are still very much alive. Before the boat heads back, be sure to stop by Pelles Sjöbod in the harbor for a coffee break.
The eastern parts of Karlskrona are perfect for those who want to get close to nature, discover history, and experience the authentic archipelago atmosphere."

"If I were to personally recommend a day in Karlskrona, I’d start by hopping on the hop-on, hop-off boat and heading out to Saltö. There, you can enjoy the beautiful archipelago scenery, take a dip from the diving platform if the weather permits, and just relax by the sea. When it’s time for lunch, I highly recommend Blomlöfs on Saltö. There you’ll find everything from fresh seafood and fish to classic home-style cooking.
After lunch, you can hop back on the boat and continue on to Brändaholm. This charming summer cottage area, with its 45 small red cottages featuring white corners, is one of Karlskrona’s most famous and beloved attractions. It’s a fantastic place to wander around, and in my opinion, it’s a stop you shouldn’t miss during your visit.
From Brändaholm, it’s a lovely walk out to Dragsö. Here you’ll find camping, beautiful nature, and a truly unique 18-hole mini-golf course inspired by Karlskrona’s World Heritage Site. I recommend playing a round, taking a walk along the island’s lovely trails, and maybe treating yourself to an ice cream from the kiosk. If you want to end the day on a high note, you can also have dinner at the campground’s restaurant before it’s time to head home."

"Once you’re in Karlskrona, don’t miss the gems in the east. The eastern parts of Karlskrona offer some of Blekinge’s most charming and scenic destinations. Here you’ll find picturesque coastal communities, unspoiled archipelago, historic settings, and experiences where tranquility and proximity to the sea take center stage.
Be sure to take a day trip to Kristianopel, a charming little Renaissance town where history meets the sea. Stroll along the cozy cobblestone streets, explore the old city walls, enjoy the blooming rose gardens, and relax at a café or one of the lovely swimming spots. For nature lovers, an extra special experience awaits at Abramsäng, where you might be lucky enough to see harbor seals resting on the skerries."

"For those of you who want to combine nature, relaxation, and activity, I recommend a bike ride out to Lake Färskesjön. Pack a tasty picnic or some snacks and enjoy the chance to sunbathe, swim, or have a barbecue in the beautiful surroundings. It’s a perfect outing to unwind and make the most of all the wonderful things our nature has to offer.
Karlskrona has an amazing number of great bike paths—in the city center, in the countryside, and in the archipelago—so just get out there and explore.”
